Job description Job responsibilities For further information on this role, please see the attached detailed Job Description and Person Specification Participate in the day-to-day co-ordination and delivery of the oncology pharmacy clinical service to NHS patients To support prescribing at the individual level, contributing to the optimisation of the individual patients drug therapy with due consideration to risk/benefit issues Clinically screen Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy prescriptions to a standard as defined in the BOPA Standards for SACT Prescription verification. To communicate effectively with all healthcare professionals to ensure the safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of drugs. To ensure appropriate provision of medication information to patients regarding SACT within the Day Unit, inpatient, and outpatient setting. Support the specialist pharmacist service provided to a cancer unit and multi-professional team, providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care through ward and clinic-based pharmacy service, and attendance at appropriate ward rounds, clinics, and meetings. In collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team critically evaluate and interpret published data on new drugs affecting the specialty to make recommendations about treatment pathways and cost implications. To support the implementation of NHSE commissioning decisions relating to the treatment of a designated specialist unit, ensuring safe SACT prescribing by the production of proforma prescriptions, and updating local/or network treatment protocols and guidelines. To disseminate knowledge gained during study or research and develop projects through presentation at local, national and international meetings and publications.
