Job description Job responsibilities Newly qualified Pharmacy Technicians or those without previous hospital experience will initially be appointed at Band 4. During this time, you will complete a comprehensive training pathway, including: Five Trust dispensary-based training programmes In-house discharge assembling training on wards Medicines Management Module 1 (or equivalent) Medicines Management Module 3 These modules will take approximately six months to complete. You will also be required to obtain an Accredited Checking Qualification (if not already held), which typically takes up to 12 months. On successful completion of all required training and submission of evidence to Human Resources, you will progress to a Band 5 Clinical Pharmacy Technician role. Applicants with significant previous experience working as a hospital Clinical Pharmacy Technician, who already hold Medicines Management Module 1 (or equivalent), Medicines Management Module 3, and an Accredited Checking Qualification, may be appointed directly at Band 5. However, they will still be required to complete the Trust dispensary-based training programmes and in-house ward-based discharge assembling training as appropriate. All successful candidates will be expected to undertake Medicines Management Module 4 or a higher-level qualification as part of their ongoing role. We also welcome applications from candidates due to qualify as Pharmacy Technicians Autumn 2026. Posts will be rotational across Freeman Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary. Band 4 To practice as a registered Pharmacy Technician. To undertake a full range of technical pharmaceutical activities within the dispensary including providing advice to patients and other healthcare staff. To support ward-based services on identified wards at the RVI and FH including the dispensing of discharge prescriptions, completing medication histories and providing patient counselling. Band 5 To practice as a registered pharmacy technician. To provide a clinical service to identified patients. In domiciliary general practice or Trust settings including reducing risk associated with the admission and discharge process. To undertake a broad range of technical pharmaceutical activities in the dispensary and wards, including providing advice to patients and other healthcare staff.
