Job description Job responsibilities Leadership and Management Provide leadership and line management to the Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician team, ensuring appropriate staffing, performance management, and staff development. Promote a positive working environment that supports teamwork, continuous improvement, and delivery of Trust objectives. Act as a role model and provide visible leadership, supporting staff to achieve their goals and maintain high professional standards. Oversee recruitment, workforce planning, appraisals, and training needs within the team. Participate as an active member of the Senior Pharmacy Technician Group. Service Delivery and Development Lead the delivery and ongoing development of medicines management and clinical pharmacy services across inpatient areas. Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are in place, regularly reviewed, and adhered to. Identify opportunities for service improvement, innovation, and modernisation of pharmacy services. Support the achievement of performance targets, including Cost Improvement Programmes (CIP). Medicines Management Oversee the provision of medicines management services to a range of clinical specialties. Ensure safe and effective use of medicines, including accurate medicines reconciliation, supply, and discharge processes. Lead ward-based pharmacy technician services, ensuring efficient stock management and compliance with medicines storage standards. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes and resolve medicines-related issues. Maintain Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) competency through regular dispensary practice. Clinical Governance and Risk Management Support the monitoring and investigation of medication incidents and implement improvements to reduce risk. Lead and participate in audits, ensuring compliance with local and national standards. Ensure robust systems are in place for medicines storage, supply, and safety. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient safety strategies. Education and Training Lead the education, training, and competency assessment of pharmacy technicians, assistants, and trainees. Act as an Education Supervisor where appropriate. Support induction programmes and ongoing professional development within the team. Deliver training on medicines management to pharmacy and multidisciplinary staff. Operational Responsibilities Support the day-to-day operational running of pharmacy clinical services, ensuring continuity and resilience. Provide ward and dispensary cover where required. Work flexibly to meet service demands and organisational priorities. Professional Responsibilities Maintain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and comply with professional standards. Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and support team members in achieving their revalidation requirements.
